How Missouri Republican Caucuses will work

With Missouri Republicans returning to the caucus system, there are a lot of questions about how they will work. STLToday has published a FAQ provided my the Missouri GOP:
Q: Who can go to a caucus?
A: Any registered voter in a county who says he or she is a Republican.
Q: Where are caucuses held?
A: One caucus will be held in each of Missouri’s 114 counties and the city of St. Louis at 10 a.m. on March 17.

Here is more information:

The County Caucuses will take place on March 17, 2012. At these caucuses, which are open to any Republican who is registered to vote in that county, attendees will select delegates and alternates to the Congressional District conventions and State Convention. No delegates to the national convention are selected at this time. The number of delegates and alternates per county is determined by the Missouri Republican Party.
The Congressional District Conventions will take place on April 21, 2012. At each of these 8 conventions, delegates chosen at the county level will select 3 delegates and alternates to the National Convention and 1 presidential elector. The delegates and alternates will be required to declare allegiance to a candidate prior to the voting, and they will be bound to that candidate on the first ballot—unless they are released prior to the convention.
The State Convention will take place on June 2, 2012. At the convention, delegates chosen at the county level will vote on 25 at-large delegates and alternates to the National Convention and 2 at-large presidential electors. The delegates and alternates will be required to declare allegiance to a candidate prior to the voting, and they will be bound to that candidate on the first ballot—unless they are released prior to the convention.
In total, Missouri will have 52 delegates and 49 alternates to the Republican National Convention—24 selected at the congressional district caucuses, 25 selected at the state convention, and 1 each for the state Party chairman, national committeeman and national committeewoman. (The final 3 have no alternates.)

Did last week’s Congressional debt deal, signed into law on Tuesday, Aug. 2, by President Obama, cause the credit rating agency Standard & Poor's to downgrade America’s AAA rating?
The new law requires a reduction of $1 Trillion in discretionary spending over 10 years and requires the creation of a committee to propose another $1.8 Trillion in spending cuts during that same ten years ($1 Trillion = $1000 Billion).
$1 Trillion divided into 10 years is $100 Billion/year.
$1.8 Trillion divided into 10 years is $180 Billion/year.
Therefore, the deal requires a $280 Billion per year reduction in spending.
Sounds like a lot of money until we look at the following.
This month, the United States government will spend $100 to $150 Billion more than its income. The same thing happened the month before and the month before that and the month before that. Next month, the United States government will spend $100 to $150 Billion more than its income. The same thing will happen the month after that and the month after that and the month after that.
This has been happening every month for quite some time and will continue to happen with no end in sight.
The shortage is 1,200 to 1,800 Billion dollars every year ($1.2 to $1.8 Trillion). (That is what is referred to as the deficit.) Subtract the $280 Billion per year Congress has decided not to spend and we discover our government will still be overspending its income by 920 to 1,520 Billion dollars each year for the next ten years.
Those who think America can tax its way out of this problem should be asked, "Where in the private sector do they expect to find $77 to $127 Billion PER MONTH in additional taxes? (Bill Gates owns a total of $56 Billion and Warren Buffet owns $50 Billion. After taking all of it away from them, where does the Treasury get the money for the next month’s deficit?)
Now you begin to understand why the credit rating agency Standard & Poor's is having trouble recommending American bonds as an exceptionally good loan risk. Exceptionally good loan risk is the meaning of the AAA rating.
To cover the $1200 to $1800 Billion per year shortage ($1.2 to $1.8 Trillion), Timothy Geithner, the Secretary of the U.S. Treasury, regularly issues bonds with you, me, and every other American as a co-signer on the note. To be fair, it should be stated that Secretary Geithner is just another in a long, long line of Treasury Secretaries to be part of that process.
Those of you who have taken a loan for a mortgage, a car, or used your credit card know that loan companies require you to pay interest on the outstanding balance. Interest gets paid first and then if there is any money left it is applied to the principal. The United States government is no exception.
U.S. Treasury debt now exceeds $14,300 Billion ($14.3 trillion). (That is what is referred to as the debt.) Since Oct. 1, 2010, the beginning of Fiscal Year 2011, the U.S. Treasury has paid its creditors $412.5 Billion in interest on that $14.3 Trillion debt. At that rate, by September 30, 2011 (the end of FY 2011) the U.S. Treasury may have paid out $495 Billion of your money in interest to its creditors.
Since Fiscal Year 1988, through the end of July 2011, our government has paid to its creditors $8,179,178,425,358.39 ($8.179 Trillion) in interest.
The larger the debt, the larger the interest cost, the less money we have left to spend on other things.
Before the recent debt law, it was expected that U.S. Treasury debt was going to increase by $10 Trillion over the next ten years to $24.3 Trillion. The new law reduces that increase to $7.2 Trillion over ten years to a total of $21.5 Trillion ($21,500 Billion).
If interest rates remain the same (which is unlikely) annual interest costs on the new total debt will be $744 Billion per year. That is money paid to creditors before the first soldier is paid, before the first bureaucrat is paid, before anything is paid from the tax money you paid IRS.
Does this explain the thought process behind Standard & Poor's decision regarding the AA+ rating on U.S. Bonds?

The purpose of insurance is to indemnify the insured (you) against an unexpected loss. You cannot set your home or business on fire in an effort to collect the cash. You cannot run your car into a quarry so the insurance will buy you a new one. You have to be dead before your family can collect life insurance. However, health insurance, rather than paying for unexpected loss, is a Christmas Tree of goodies that pays off on a regular basis.

Go to the doctors office for a checkup, insurance pays; have a drug addiction, insurance pays; planning a family and have a child, insurance pays! No unexpected loss necessary. Politicians found that they can buy votes by providing insurance payments to special constituents. In some cases you do not even need insurance. Show up at an emergency room without insurance, hospital pays.

What people do not realize is that this is what drives insurance costs through the roof. If people complain, politicians point a finger at "greedy" insurance companies. Then as reward for their abuse towards insurance companies, politicians take control of the whole industry and pile on further regulations. Now the insurance companies will be required to pay for contraceptives for women (what, not men?). Everyone's insurance premiums will climb again. Now, rather than going to the corner drugstore to buy what you need, you send your money to an insurance or government bureaucracy, they take what they need and then overpay for products they think are best for you.

More worrying than the abuse of our insurance system for liberal's personal gain (vote buying at the expense of the middle and upper class), is the reemergence of eugenics by the progressives. By reducing the chance of pregnancy by the lower class, the fewer lower class people there will be. Progressives tried this in the 30's and are now trying it again.

According to the Los Angeles Times "Moody's and Standard & Poors warned this week that they might soon cut the government's top-rung debt rating because of the political battle over the debt ceiling and spending cuts. " The headline here is not that our credit rating may be cut, everyone is well aware of the issue. The headline is that the credit rating agencies are, through the press, trying insert themselves into the issue. Why?

If we do not increase the debt limit, neither Moody's or Standard and Poors know if we will default on payments. Someone may not get paid or unneeded and redundant agencies may have to shut down. The politicians may even come to some sort of agreement and raise the limit. By inserting themselves, these organizations are trying to increase their power over the government, businesses and individuals.

The economic well being of our country is in the productivity of its workers and businesses. If government tends to the business of business the economy will grow and it will not make any difference what Moody's or S&P have to say. The money will flow in.

Hillsdale, MO Police use force to keep L.K. Wood campaign workers out of their town

Volunteers for L.K. "Chip" Wood placed campaign signs outside of the St. Louis County polling place in Hillsdale, MO, the night before the County's election for Assessor. When the workers returned the next day, they found the signs had been removed. The signs were replaced and removed again. When the campaign worker returned a third time, a man in the area said: "you can't put that sign there!" The worker asked why not and the man after some hesitation said "your candidate won't win in this area." Since the incident involved theft of the signs, the Wood's volunteer took a picture of the area including a man who may have taken the signs. Very shortly after this incident, police confronted the campaign worker and demanded he leave the area. One of the officers explained that if the volunteer returned, things would not turn out as well.

Our irresponsible St. Louis County officials have been inflating the value of our homes. Even when property values finally crashed, county officials kept increasing values in order to fund irresponsible spending. This money has gone to the county, municipalities, school districts, fire districts to fund padded payrolls, excessive pensions and other vote buying schemes. Even as the taxpayers are driven into bankruptcy taxes continue to crank up.

In an effort to stem the tide of easy money to the County, citizens passed a referendum changing the way the property assessor is appointed to office. Instead of being an employee of the county the assessor is now elected by the citizens, taking political pressure off of the Assessors Office.

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) has falsely accused the Tea Party of having ties to the Ku Klux Klan. Speaking at the NAACP convention, she said: "All those who wore sheets a long time ago lifted them off to wear Tea Party clothing." Now is the time to speak some Truth to Power.

It would have been far more truthful for the congresswoman to have admitted the fact that all those who wore sheets a long time ago lifted them to wear Democratic Party clothing. Yes, the Ku Klux Klan was established by the Democratic Party. Yes, the Ku Klux Klan murdered thousands of Republicans -- African-American and white -- in the years following the Civil War. Yes, the Republican Party and a Republican President, Ulysses Grant, destroyed the KKK with their Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871.

How did the Ku Klux Klan re-emerge in the 20th century? For that, the Democratic Party is to blame.

It was a racist Democrat President, Woodrow Wilson, who premiered Birth of a Nation in the White House. That racist movie was based on a racist book written by one of Wilson's racist friends from college. In 1915, the movie spawned the modern-day Klan, with its burning crosses and white sheets.

Inspired by the movie, some Georgia Democrats revived the Klan. Soon, the Ku Klux Klan again became a powerful force within the Democratic Party. The KKK so dominated the 1924 Democratic Convention that Republicans, speaking truth to power, called it the Klanbake. In the 1930s, a Democrat President, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, appointed a Klansman, Senator Hugo Black (D-AL), to the U.S. Supreme Court.
In the 1950s, the Klansmen against whom the civil rights movement struggled were Democrats. The notorious police commissioner Bull Connor, who attacked African-Americans with dogs and clubs and fire hoses, was both a Klansman and the Democratic Party's National Committeeman for Alabama. Starting in the 1980s, the Democratic Party elevated a recruiter for the Ku Klux Klan, Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV), to third-in-line for the presidency.

Speaking more Truth to Power, the GOP has been a resolute enemy of the Ku Klux Klan, terrorist wing of the Democratic Party.

Vote No on Proposition P in University City, April 6th

The City of University City will have a $3 million bond issue on the April 6 ballot for fire equipment – Proposition P. The bond issue isn’t needed and there are questions if the fire equipment is even needed. Here are the Top 10 Reasons to reject the tax:

1) Proposition P would unnecessarily raise your property taxes. Though it won’t say so on the ballot, Proposition P would raise your property taxes to pay for two new fire pumpers, new furnishing for the new fire station at Westgate and Vernon, and for renovations of the old fire station. There is no need to raise taxes or go millions of dollars into debt for these purposes.

2) There is $350,000 already set aside for a new pumper truck. The City has $350,000 on hand to pay for a new fire pumper, which cost about $550,000. The apparent plan was to buy one pumper now and another at a later date – without any bond issue. But it seems the idea was to put the bond issue on the ballot before the state audit of the City was conducted.

3) There is a dedicated sales tax just for the Fire Department. There is a sales tax collected in U. City that goes just to the fire department. It raises about $550,000 a year. The Fire Dept. is also funded by U. City property taxes, among the highest in St. Louis County.

4) The City has $8.2 million in reserves! The City of University City has $8.2 million in cash reserves at the current time, nearly twice what is considered necessary. This provides more evidence that the bond issue isn’t necessary.

5) The City has $2 million in delinquent trash fees. University City government has allowed over $2 million in unpaid trash fees to accumulate. This would be enough to purchase several fire trucks and a lot more.

6) City officials have not made the case for new fire trucks. At a Town Hall Meeting on January 11, City Manager Julie Feier was asked several questions about the need for two new fire pumpers as both have less than 55,000 miles on them. She was unable to provide answers.

7) The Fire Chief and the Assistant Fire Chief live out of the city. Fire Chief Steve Olshwanger is supposed to live in University City but he lives in St. Peters. Assistant Chief Don Miners lives in Franklin County. Only one fire fighter lives in U City. This is an unacceptable situation and needs to be resolved before the Fire Department receives any additional funding from taxpayers.

8) The Fire Department Dispatching Contract. Though few U. City residents know it, calls to the fire department are now dispatched from North Central County Fire Alarm. This was all done last year with no public input or knowledge. So if anyone calls 911 for a fire emergency, the call is dispatched to the alarm company which then dispatches it back to the U. City Fire Department.

9) City information on finances is questionable. Last year, University City residents were told a sales tax increase was absolutely needed due to a $1 million deficit. In a brochure that violated state campaign laws, citizens were threatened with all kinds of cutbacks if the tax didn’t pass. Voters rejected the tax and then city officials determined there was really a $500,000 surplus.

10) 0
Best to await results of the State Audit. There have been so many unanswered questions about city finances that residents began a successful petition drive for a state audit last year. The audit will begin soon. It might be best to await results of the state audit, and get a clear idea of city finances, before raising property taxes and going millions of dollars in debt.

Republican Central Committee Chairman Requests St. Louis County Government to Clarify FBI Probe

According to KMOX radio, the FBI is conducting a high level investigation of St. Louis County government. This is not good news for Missouri Democrats who are mired in corruption issues in the St. Louis area. Recently State Representative T.D. El-Amin and State Senator, Jeff Smith have gone to jail for criminal activities. Also, Steve Brown of the 73 Congressional District resigned his seat because of involvement with Smith. El-Alin, Smith and Brown are all Democrats.

In response to the KMOX radio report, Richard Magee, chairman of the St. Louis County Republican Central Committee, asks that County Officials publicly explain, in detail, the nature of an on-going investigation of the County by the FBI. Magee commented, “I am concerned about the credibility of county officials and their ability to conduct official business now and in the future.”

According to reports by KMOX news, there is an ongoing probe of the County and how it awards contracts. KMOX’s report stated that, “this goes all the way to the top.”

Carnahan covers up disenfranchisement of military voters that occurred on her watch

JEFFERSON CITY—Secretary of State Robin Carnahan today attempted to cover up her the disenfranchisement of military voters that occurred on her watch. Carnahan held a joint press conference to boast about new federal reforms meant make the voting process easier for men and women stationed overseas—but she whitewashed her own failures to ensure that members of the armed forces can vote.

Carnahan’s record has been slammed by watchdogs and experts:

A January 2009 Pew Center on the States study of military voting ranked Missouri as one of the 9 worst states for military voters. The study, entitled No Time to Vote: Challenges Facing America’s Overseas Military Voters, slammed Missouri for being one of the “nine ‘no time to vote’ states that afford military voters fewer than 45 days to receive and mail back their completed ballots.”

In a subsequent news article, one of the report’s authors blasted the states like Missouri that did not give veterans enough time to vote: “We’re failing in our responsibility to ensure access to military voters living overseas. While these voters are serving America, America is not serving them.”

But rather than address the problems described in the report, Carnahan, the highest ranking elections official in the state, claimed she was powerless to implement reforms. Instead, her spokesman complained: “We can’t change the laws.”

Shortly after the bombshell report, Robin “We Can’t Change the Laws” Carnahan backed a bill to allow military voting by email and fax. However, that effort was criticized by State Rep John Diehl*, the former Chairman of the St Louis County Elections Board, who was concerned that fax and email “might not be secure and could waive a soldier’s right to a secret ballot.” (AP, February 17, 2009)

“Robin Carnahan has worked side-by-side with groups like ACORN, which engaged in a years-long effort to commit voter fraud, but she cannot find a way to ensure that the men and women of our military are able to access the ballot,” said Lloyd Smith, Executive Director of the Missouri Republican Party. “It is extremely important that Missourians serving in the military have a say in the direction of our state and nation, but on Carnahan’s watch, Missouri was ranked one of the worst states in the nation for military voting, and the legislation she supported may have put our soldiers’ sacred right to a secret ballot at risk. Robin Carnahan has failed the men and women of our military. She cannot be allowed to sweep her record under the rug by taking credit for federal legislation meant to address a broken system that Carnahan did nothing to fix.”

*As an alternative, Rep. Diehl proposed allowing members of the military stationed overseas to vote online, which would ensure more security and secrecy than the Carnahan-backed bill.

Due to an unexpected vacancy in Missouri's 73rd. Congressional District there will be a special election for this seat on November 3rd. The Republican candidate for this seat will be Dan O'Sullivan. Dan is a small businessman in St. Louis County. He is concerned with the County's property tax issues and states:

"I want to go to Jefferson City to tell them that we, the residents and business people of this area, are sick and tired of being ignored and we want someone that understands our concerns. I will speak clearly about our issues and bring an outside voice to the process. Opponents of a quarter-cent local sales tax for municipal operations plan this weekend to start circulating petitions for a state audit of the city. Voters will consider the tax Aug. 4.

Massive amounts of government money drive up medical costs

Lee Presser has a very good point here about the high cost of health care.

Government loans and private educational loans tend to send massive amounts of money into our education system. This allows colleges and universities to increase tuition exponentially. Why shouldn't educators increase their fees if lifetime earnings are substantially increased? In the same way easy mortgage loans backed by the government unrealistically drove up the value of homes. Our health care system is heavily funded by the government. Nursing home stays are 90% funded by Medicare and Medicaid. There are even firms that will help you qualify. A large portion of hospital stays are funded by Medicare and Medicaid.

University City Proposition S Brochure Called Illegal

Last Friday (July 17th) University City Residents started receiving brochures titled "Frequently Asked Questions on Proposition S." Proposition S is a ballot measure to increase University City sales taxes 1/4 percent and will be on the August 4th ballot. There are a number of questions regarding this proposed tax increase including: why as a budget passed just a month ago with the knowledge that there would not be enough money to cover it?

Tom Sullivan, a citizen of University City, sent the City Manager a memo stating that he found the brochure to be be illegal for the following reasons:

1] You are unlawfully spending public funds to support the passage of Proposition S.

2] The brochure does not identify who paid for it, as required by law for any "printed matter relative to any candidate for public office or any ballot measure." There are no exceptions.

3] The City has apparently violated provisions of the Campaign Finance Disclosure Law, Chapter 130, RSMo, having to do with reporting of expenditures made to promote the passage of the proposal.

He went on to advise the City Manager:

I would urge you to get an opinion from your city attorney on the legality of the brochure. Should he claim it is legal, then the next step will be going to St. Louis County Circuit Court to get a restraining order. I also believe criminal issues can be raised surrounding these unlawful expenditures.

There have been some real problems with the budget in University City. The City Manager, Julie Feier proposed, and and 4 members of the City Council (Wards 1 and 3) voted to pass a budget that is $1.3M in deficit. In order to offset this deficit they are taking and additional $60,000 from the Economic Redevelopment Retail Sales Tax Fund and moving that to the General Fund, AND they are counting on a sales tax increase of 0.25%, raising our sales tax rate to the highest in the metro St. Louis Area - they are counting on the taxes before even bringing the idea to a public vote! There has been not notification of Prop. S, though they are planning to send out a flier. August is typically a time when people are out of town on vacation, and so they are hoping that only those who know and support Prop. S will show up to the polls to vote.

It follows the nomination of Barry Goldwater for President of the United States, support of Richard Nixon, the first big Conservative triumph of Ronald Reagan and on to the election George W. Bush.

This history covers the losses as well as triumphs of American Conservatives. It covers issues that brought them to power, that cost them elections and issues that divided the Republican Party itself. I think that anyone interested in politics will not be able to put this book down.

Yesterday the call went out to thousands of people to be sure to pick up the phone this evening for a conference call with Representative Russ Carnahan. Sure enough, at 6:45 the call came. It wasn't Russ on the phone, just his recorded voice saying to stay on the line to "get in on the call." You could ask questions but you had to push "0" to ask a question.

Listening for a few minutes, the theme of the calls was, "Don't allow imports, manufacture everything here, and the economy will be fine." Sounds simple enough. Limit our freedom to buy goods from where we wish and all will be OK.

I wanted to push "0" and ask, what if the stuff made here is more expensive? Will people still buy it? Or will the economy just stagnate further? I also wanted to ask about the excessive spending, what will he, Russ Carnahan, do about runaway inflation? What about energy? Will he allow more oil to be produced? Is he going to increase our cost of living through Cap and Trade? Is he going to allow this burden to crush our economy again?

I was going to push "0" and ask my questions but it was apparent the call was a setup. They were only going to allow questions to show his point of view so I turned on O'Reilly.

The Markey-Waxman “Cap-and-trade” Energy Tax bill, in the current form being considered by the House Energy and Commerce committee, would have the following catastrophic effects by 2035:

1.Reduce aggregate gross domestic product (GDP) by $9.6 trillion annually;

2.Destroy 1,105,000 American jobs per year on average, with peak years seeing unemployment rise by over 2,479,000 jobs;

3.Raise electricity rates 90 percent after adjusting for inflation;

4.Raise inflation-adjusted gasoline prices by 74 percent;

5.Raise residential natural gas prices by 55 percent;

6.Raise an average family's annual energy bill by $1,500 annually; and

7.Increase inflation-adjusted federal debt by 26 percent, or $29,150 additional federal debt per person, again after adjusting for inflation.

Under enhanced penalties passed by the Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Rod Blagojevich last year, first-time work zone speeders, including those caught on camera, will be hit with a fine of $375, with $125 of that sum going to pay off-duty State Troopers to provide added enforcement in construction or maintenance zones. Two-time offenders are subject to a $1,000 fine, including a $250 surcharge to hire Troopers, and the loss of their license for 90 days.

However, who is more dangerous? People not going through construction zones at the posted speed limit or State Police rocket jockeys?

A St. Clair County Grand Jury has indicted a state police officer for killing two teenage motorists in a rather spectacular crash. In typical fashion, the police tried to cover it up.

According to an article in STLtoday.com, Illinois Attorney General met with President Obama regarding Roland Burris' Senate seat. Also in the meeting were Valerie Jarett, Obama's senior advisor and his Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel.

This sound like something from The Godfather where Madigan goes to "The Don" to get his blessing to take the seat. Perhaps Obama will make Burris an offer he can't refuse.

Senator Durbin sells stock after economic briefing

Senator Dick Durbin's financial disclosure statements show that one day after he and fellow congressional leaders were urged by then-Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke to craft bank-bailout legislation, he sold almost$ 43,000 worth of mutual fund shares. He then bought a similar amount in Berkshire Hathaway stock. Altogether Durbin sold investments worth $116,000 in September.

"Ruin Your Health With the Obama Stimulus Plan," Betsy McCaughey states:

Tragically, no one from either party is objecting to the health provisions slipped in without discussion. These provisions reflect the handiwork of Tom Daschle, until recently the nominee to head the Health and Human Services Department.

Senators should read these provisions and vote against them because they are dangerous to your health.

Daschle says health-care reform “will not be pain free.” Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them. That means the elderly will bear the brunt.

Voter fraud discoverd in the City of St. Louis, points to higher government officials

ACORN's main defense on the voter fraud issue has been that, none of their illegally registered voters actually voted. Now the City of St. Louis Board of Election Commissioner has found over 30 counts of election fraud;

The commissioners are talking about referring the case to the US Attorney in St. Louis. These guys have known about this for years and refuse to do anything about it. Our Secretary of state has been "investigating" ACORN and voter fraud and found nothing.

Here is what the Missouri GOP has to say:

Today’s announcement by the St. Louis City Board of Elections makes it clear that voter fraud continues to thrive in Missouri, despite Robin Carnahan’s attempts to cover up the problem. Earlier this year, she issued an incomplete and less-than-professional report claiming that the state’s elections are ‘free of fraud.’ We now know that this is simply not true. Carnahan, the chief elections officer in the State of Missouri, has diminished the impact of voters who abide by the law, instead, attempting to whitewash her record of overlooking the existence of voter fraud in Missouri.

We commend the St. Louis Board of Election’s diligence in the face of Carnahan’s indifference, and we hope that the U.S. Attorney fully investigates these allegations.

While our property values are dropping due to our national financial problems (see article below) our county taxing autorities are countering by increasing their tax rates. School districts, municipalities, fire districts are raising taxes.

There are two components to your property tax. One is the assessed value of your home and the other is the tax rate per $100 valuation of your home. Last year the tax rate was $6.9808 per $100 valuation of your property. To calculate your tax, take your assessed value, divide by 100 and multiply by the tax rate. If your assessed value was $45,370, you would calculate $45,370/100= 453.7 X 6.9809 = $3,167.20 tax. Those tax rates are now increasing.

Voters overwhelmingly approve historic tax decrease

A real-life taxpayer revolution took place on April 7 in South St. Louis County. Voters in the Mehlville Fire Protection District went to the polls and overwhelmingly approved a tax decrease—likely the first of its kind in Missouri history.

The effort began three years ago, when the board attempted to place a tax decrease proposal on the ballot; however, a judge ruled that voters did not have the legal authority to lower taxes. So the Missouri General Assembly responded, passing a law ensuring that voters had the option to reduce their taxes. The fire district acted again, and when the votes were counted, the tax decrease passed with nearly 80% of the vote.

The Missouri Republican Party commends the Mehlville Fire Protection District’s Board of Directors for their responsible use of taxpayer money and for their resolve in fighting the groups that sought to prevent the vote from ever occurring.

For those that are not aware of it, St. Louis County property appraisals have been done and are available on-line. You can find your assessment at: http://revenue.stlouisco.com/ias/. It includes appraised and assessed value with comparison to last year. This way you can see if your valuation is going up or down and by how much. Also there are links to Comparable Sales and other sales in the area. You should look carefully at this data.

There are two components to your property tax. One is the assessed value of your home and the other is the tax rate per $100 valuation of your home. Last year the tax rate was $6.9808 per $100 valuation of your property. To calculate your tax, take your assessed value, divide by 100 and multiply by the tax rate. Missouri Republican Party requests information shared between Carnahan and ACORN

Missouri Republican Party submitted an Open Records Request seeking documents pertaining to ACORN or its affiliated organizations and all contacts between Secretary of State Robin Carnahan’s office and members of ACORN.

“Our request will shed light on why ACORN’s ongoing and well-documented voter registration fraud merited no response in her 205 page analysis of the 2008 elections,” said Lloyd Smith, Executive Director of the Missouri Republican Party. “We believe it is important to determine if Secretary of State Carnahan’s cozy relationship with ACORN has clouded her judgment.”

Young adults split on capitalism vs socialism according to Rasmussen poll

Recent polling done by Rasmussen Reports found the adults under 30 favored capitalism over socialism 37% to 33%. Adults favored capitalism (53%) over socialism (20%). 27% were not sure.

Free trade and freedom of association (capitalism) built this country and gave us the standard of living we enjoy today. This lack of understanding of how freedom works reflects a complete failure of our education system.

The Tea Party People are still on schedule for April 15th in Kiener Plaza. If you are concerned about the excessive spending I strongly urge that you go to this event a be part of the movement. This is what the liberals do to get attention, now it our turn.

Also, St. Louis seems to be Ground Zero for national coverage so we need to make a good impression. There is a lot of information on the Tea Party website, so I suggest you go there.

Jefferson City - This morning, Secretary of State Robin Carnahan released an analysis of the 2008 elections that ignores the threat posed by voter registration fraud in Missouri. This comes despite an organized effort by groups such as the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) to submit thousands of fraudulent voter registrations to county election boards across this state. Carnahan’s report, which does not mention ACORN, also comes a week after a former organizer for ACORN pleaded guilty to federal charges for submitting fraudulent voter registrations in the St. Louis area—the latest in a long line of serious voter fraud allegations for the left-wing group
